The London Home Economics Association (LHEA) is hosting a Look, Live, and Feel Fabulous Event and you are invited!
When? October 16, 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Where? The Merici Lounge in the St. James Building
What? This fabulous event will include…
- a chance to network with LHEA professionals
- refreshments and food such as sandwiches, vegetables, and fruits
- A presentation done by a Shoppers Cosmetics employee which will focus on make up application for different ages
This event is $2.00 for SHEA members and $4.00 for non SHEA members.

Looking for Community Nutrition experience?

A fun and practical way to gain important community nutrition experience:

The Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) in London is looking for nutrition students to volunteer for congregate dining (breakfast and lunch) programs in 10 London Middlesex Housing apartment buildings. The program is intended to teach healthy cooking on a budget, along with nutrition and exercise related education components. 

The programs run for 1-3 hours each week in various apartments around the city. Currently there are 7 programs up and running (see below). Duties at each building include shopping for meal preparation (you are reimbursed), prepping and serving meals on location.We are currently recruiting for the upcoming Spring and Summer months, as well as next Fall. If you are interested, choose the day(s) that you are available and contact SARAH HOWE: sarah.howe@von.ca

What is the ‘Professional Success Series?’

This term, we will be continuing the SHEA Professional Success Series (SPSS) that was so successful last year! This is a series of events focusing on a very broad range of topics that will contribute greatly to your professional and personal development.

Why participate?

  • We will hear from patients who have been affected by different disorders, professionals from the community, and gain skills that will help in your personal and professional lives.
  • Upon completion of this series, you will receive a certificate that will state the events you have attended (even if you only attended one!). Add this to your professional portfolio!
  • For each SPSS event you attend, you will get an entry to a final year-end draw for a prize. Every time you attend an event, you will increase your odds of winning!

Come learn about the “do”s and “don’t”s of fine dining from an expert, while enjoying a delicious gourmet meal! You will be responsible for your own transportation, but if you are interested, you can meet up with us at Alumni Hall at 5:45 PM and we will bus it there together. Please bring $30 for the dinner, and make sure to dress appropriately, as this is a fine dining restaurant.

After the War: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Patient Panel
Mon Feb 13 – 6 PM – Room 302, St. James Building, Brescia

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has become more prominent in the media since soldiers have returned from Afghanistan. However, the symptoms and impact it has on people’s lives is not yet well known. Five people who have been affected by PTSD in their day-to-day lives will come and share the devastating impact it has had on their lives and their families.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Health at Every Size: Presentation by Julie Rochefort, RD
Thurs Feb 16 – 7 PM

Come listen to dynamic speaker (and Brescia graduate!) Julie Rochefort, RD, who is an advocate for the Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy. HAES works to eliminate weight-discrimination bias and to help us understand that we must ‘shift the focus’ from weight to health status. Check out her website at http://www.shiftthefocus.ca/.

Each year SHEA runs a clothing order for students in our programs. Earlier this year we asked YOU which items you wanted to see on the order form – here is what you asked for!

  • Zip-up hoodies – $50 ($45 for SHEA members)
  • Sweatpants – $40
  • Yoga pants – $30
  • Tote bags – $10
  • Lanyards also on sale upon request! (red “SHEA” / black “I <3 hecol”)
All merchandise is offered in various colours and crested with the words “Nutrition and Dietetics”. Samples are available in the BUCSC Office (in the Living Room) for sizing!

The word is tickets were sold out within a couple hours when they went on sale, and a huge number of those who attended were our very own SHEA members.
